Moisture

For example, if you have parked the car in rain, snow, or humidity overnight, the moisture will make place in the brakes as a thin layer. This layer will then become rust due to moisture in the air and will damage the rotor as it should.

So, try to park your car away from moisture, usually indoors. The little layer of rust will generally go away with normal driving as the heat builds up.

Metallic brake pads

So if your vehicle has drum brakes, the contact point between the shoes and the drum must be in lack of lubrication. Therefore, the shoes will run against the backing plate which will let out high-pitch sound.

To avoid this, you should use the brake grease to the backing plate where the piston meets the shoes.

How you press the brake paddle

If you are an aggressive driver and press the brakes hard and fast during high speed, it will cause more heat in little time. Certainly, that comes with some impact and in this case, it will cause the hard glaze on the brake pads.

The glaze on the car brake pads will prevent its friction to develop needed for stopping the car. As a result, the brakes squeak like crazy even when stopping the car slowly.

Dust debris, and junk

But before you dive deeper, the braces may squeak as a result of a thin layer of rust or corrosion. If you had parked your car in a snowy or moist area, the overnight time is enough to cause the brakes a bit squeaky.

If that is the reason, it will automatically go away after a few applications of brake paddle. When the engine starts and you drive the car, the heat will remove the rust if it’s not too much.

So you won’t need to replace the brakes in that case. However, if that is not the reason, here is how you should stop brakes from squeaking.

Add the set of shims

Another tip is to put the set of shims to the brake. It comes as the instant and helpful solution for the squeaking brakes of the vehicle. Use the brake pad shims on the brake pads and make sure it works seamlessly afterwards. The brake pad shims fill up the space that was the reason for pushing the brake pads around.

Add lubrication on the brakes pads

When you hear an old and high-pitched sound from any machinery, usually, adding lubrication solves it. However, sometimes the problem can be different. 

But in car brakes if you apply grease or some other specified lubricated solution to it, it will instantly become smooth and quiet. All you need to do is to remove the brake pads from the calipers and evenly apply the lube or brake grease to the back side of the brake pad.
